How to store PET bottles for long-term use?
1. Storage Temperature

With the temperature increasing (above 100°F or 38°C), empty PET bottles will further shrink, mainly owing to the relaxation of the oriented and partially oriented regions of the bottle. Extreme temperature (above 131°F or 55°C) can cause serious distortion of the amorphous areas of the plastic bottle, including the neck and finish.

Therefore, appropriate storage temperature should be provided to ensure consistent dimensions and properties of the PET bottles.

2. Storage Time

PET bottles should be used in a first-in-first-out system to limit the time stored. For long-term storage, you can use hermetically-sealed polyethylene plastic bags or lined drums, totes, bins, Gaylord containers. The plastic liner helps prevent dust and dirt from entering the bottles and affecting contents.

3. Transport Conditions

It is recommended that PET bottles, when empty, are shipped to or through areas where the outdoor temperature may exceed 90°F or 32°C. Maybe, you also can use the container or trailer capable where temperature can be controlled at 80°F or 27°C, even lower.

4. Surface Protection

The storage areas should be clean, dry, dustless, mothproof, odorless, and tasteless. It should also be approved for food storage. Keep PET bottles away from direct sunlight. Aromatic materials, such as spices, solvents, ink, cleaning supplies, and disinfectants, should not be stored in the same area as PET bottles.
